Maori Strategy Unit

The MAF Maori Strategy Unit was established on 1 July 2000 and it is part of the Directorate-General. The primary purpose of the Maori Strategy Unit is to implement the MAF Maori responsiveness strategy. The strategy aims to promote a greater awareness by MAF of Maori issues, increase MAF's understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and help MAF develop more effective relationships with Maori.

Functions of the Maori Strategy Unit

  • participation in the policy development and programme design, or peer review of the work of MAF business groups;
  • advising on Maori relationship management and the design of Maori consultation processes;
  • the maintenance of external relationships within the public sector and with Maori and Maori organisations;
  • advising on the management of contracts with a Maori dimension; contributing to the monitoring and evaluation of the quality of MAF outputs for Maori.
