Australasian Plant Virology Workshop 2008
Announcement of the 8th Australasian Plant Virology Workshop
Rotorua, 19-22 November 2008
The Australasian Plant Virology Workshop is a biennial event organized by the plant virologists of the Australasian Plant Pathology Society (APPS). It is the premier plant virology meeting in Australasia, providing the single most important opportunity for established virologists and postgraduate students from the region to meet and network on a regular basis.

This event is organized as a medium-sized meeting that offers the opportunity to attend all oral presentations and discuss on poster updates of recent research results. The meeting is organised over three days devoted entirely to the subject. The venues are selected in isolated but spectacular geographic localities that stimulate deep and focused discussions on plant virology issues in a congenial environment.
The research topics cover a range from basic and molecular to ecological and applied virology. The past workshops have been highly successful, and had a very high attendance rate from Australasian researchers in this discipline.
The 2006 workshop in Perth had approx 70 local participants, a very substantial proportion of the region’s virologists, plus several prominent overseas speakers.
We are expecting a similar number of participants for the 8th Australasian Plant Virology Workshop, which will be organized for the first time in New Zealand. The meeting will be held 20 minutes from the airport of Rotorua, at the beautiful and secluded Lake Okataina Lodge
from 19th-22nd November 2008.
