Review of the MAF Biosecurity Export Certification Standards for Forestry Organisations

MAF Biosecurity New Zealand (MAFBNZ) is conducting an evaluation of the MAF Export Certification Standards for plant products. Included in this evaluation will be an industry lead review of the MAF Standards for forestry organisations.

The review will be managed by the Forest Product Export Committee FPEC in conjunction with industry associations: Wood Processors Association (WPA); New Zealand Timber Industry Federation (NZTIF); and the New Zealand Forest Owners Association (NZFOA). The objective of the review is to identify and prioritise changes to the MAF Standards that will benefit and enhance the export potential of forestry organisations.

The following MAF Standards will be included in the review:

Note 1: The MAF Export Certification Standard - Technical Requirements for ISPM 15 is currently under revision and will not be included in the review.

Note 2: The treatment supplier programme will be reviewed for forestry organisations only; for example, kiln drying and heat treatment processes. This does not include a review for fumigation organisations.

It is acknowledged that not all organisations are affiliated to the named associations. Therefore, MAFBNZ approved forestry organisations, sawn and manufactured timber exporters, and log exporters are requested to consider areas of interest and improvement within the MAF Standards and to provide comment in writing by Monday 12th October 2009 to:

Either:
Wood Processors Association; New Zealand Timber Industry Federation; or New Zealand Forest Owners Association.
