Consultation on the Revised MAFBNZ Export Certification Standard Technical Requirements: Registered Certification Mark (ISPM 15)

The International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures ISPM 15, Regulation of Wood Packaging Material in International Trade has been revised in 2009. The revised international standard can be found here:

To ensure alignment between the MAF Biosecurity New Zealand (MAFBNZ) Export Certification Standards and the revised international standard the MAFBNZ Export Certification Standard Technical Requirements: Registered Certification Mark (ISPM 15) has been amended.

Notable changes to the amended MAFBNZ Export Certification Standard Technical Requirements: Registered Certification Mark (ISPM 15) include:

  1. Mandatory requirement for all wood packaging material to be debarked;
  2. Changes to the application of methyl bromide fumigation for wood packaging material;
  3. Specification for the design and application of the registered certification mark;
  4. and Requirements for remanufactured, recycled, and repaired wood packaging material.

You are asked to provide comment by Friday 30th October 2009 on the amended MAFBNZ Export Certification Standard Technical Requirements: Registered Certification Mark (ISPM 15) (attached) in writing to:

MAFBNZ will consider all comments prior to implementation of the amended standard. A reasonable phase in period will be allowed for organisations to update their MAFBNZ approved systems, and for any required changes to the registered certification mark used by an organisation.
