Commercial Exports

Animal Exports

Any commercial exporter of animal products, live animals and animal germplasm (semen and embryos) is potentially covered by the Animal Products Act 1999 (though dairy produce is excluded).

The Animal Products Act requires all commercial exporters of animal products, live animals and animal germplasm to be registered with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry where the foreign government requires official assurances (eg, health certification) about the status or safety of those export items.

Exporter Registration

Annual exporter registration(offsite link to www.nzfsa.govt.nz) is required for exporters of animal products, live animals and animal germplasm. These applications are assessed according to requirements set out in section 54 of the Animal Products Act. An annual exporter registration fee is payable.

Export Certificates

Any live animal, animal germplasm or animal product export agreement between New Zealand and another country is set out in an export certificate. Access to the certificates themselves is restricted.

Overseas Market Access Requirements

OMARS are the public access version of the export certificates and outline overseas country requirements for live animal and animal germplasm (semen and embryos) exported from New Zealand.
