Places of First Arrival

MAF's Director-General may approve a port as a place of first arrival. A standard has been developed that sets out the minimum requirements for a port to be approved as a place of first arrival under the Biosecurity Act 1993.

Ports with existing approvals must also meet the standard, as well as that of any other legislation affecting the approval as a port (such as the Customs and Excise Act 1996 and Health Act 1956).

A standard has also been set out for those wanting an airport to be approved as a place of first arrival.
