Overseas Market Access Requirements Notification - Animal Products Act 1999 - MAF Biosecurity New Zealand

1. Statutory authority
Pursuant to section 60 of the Animal Products Act 1999:
(i) I notify the following overseas market access requirements, entitled companion lagomorphs and rodents to Belgium.
This notice takes effect from date of signing.

2. Belgium Requirements
Companion lagomorphs and rodents exported from New Zealand to Belgium must comply with the import requirements of Belgium listed in this notice as follows:
2.1 An Official Veterinarian of New Zealand authorised by the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry must certify, after due enquiry, the following:
2.1.1 New Zealand is free from myxomatosis and rabies.
2.1.2 The animals were examined by an Official Veterinarian on the scheduled date of departure and showed no signs of infectious, contagious or transmittable diseases and were found to be fit to travel.
2.1.3 The animals are being transported to Belgium in accordance with the container requirements specified in the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Live Animal Regulations, approved by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
3. Definitions
For the purposes of this document:
Any term or expression that is defined in the Animal Products Act 1999 and used, but not defined in this document, has the same meaning as in this Act.
Explanatory note
This OMAR is based on the export certificate for companion lagomorphs and rodents, dated 07 August 2009.

This OMAR is based on import conditions supplied by the Food Safety Center, Kruidtuinlaan 55 (6˚ verdieping – 604) boulevard du Jardin Botanique 55 (6 étage – 604).
1. An Import Permit is required. This can be obtained by contacting The Food Safety Center by Telephone (02) 211 8450, by facsimile on (02) 211 8470 or by emailing Joannes Moelans on Joannes.Moelans@favv.be. The Import Permit, along with the Zoosanitary Certificate must be presented at the time of import.
2. Before departure the exporter must check whether a CITES document is required. For information on CITES please contact the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DoC).
3. This authorisation does not override legal requirements of other public offices or services concerning the transport and care of animals. It can be retracted at any time by AFSCA and must be immediately sent to them if requested.
Section 61.A of the Animal Products Amendments Act 2005 states that 'The Crown is not liable, and nor is the Director-General or any employee of the Ministry liable, for any loss arising through the refusal or failure of the relevant authority of an overseas market to admit export animal material or animal product to that market'.
