1. Statutory authority

Pursuant to section 60 of the Animal Products Act 1999:

(i) I notify the following overseas market access requirements and specifications, entitled companion rabbits to Taiwan.

This notice takes effect from date of signing.

2. Taiwan Requirements

Companion rabbits to Taiwan must comply with the import requirements of Taiwan listed in this notice as follows:

2.1 An Import Permit is required for the exportation of companion rabbits to Taiwan.

2.2 An Official Veterinarian authorised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry New Zealand must certify, after due enquiry the following:

2.2.1 New Zealand is free from foot-and-mouth disease, rinderpest, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, African swine fever, tularaemia (Francisella tularensis) and myxomatosis.

2.2.2 No case of rabbit haemorrhagic disease has been diagnosed on the premises of origin during the 12 months immediately preceding the date of export.

2.2.3 The animal(s) for export has been isolated at a pre-approved isolation premise for a minimum of 10 days.

2.2.4 The animal(s) for export has been inspected by a MAF Official Veterinarian during the ten (10) day isolation period prior to export to Taiwan and has been found to be healthy, fit to travel and free from evidence of infectious and contagious disease.

2.2.5 The animal(s) for export is being transported in a cage/container that is;

Either: new

Or: has been cleaned and disinfected with an officially approved disinfectant.

2.2.6 The animal(s) for export is being transported in accordance with the container requirements specified in the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Live Animal Regulations, approved by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

2.2.7 No other animals were loaded during the transportation of the animal(s) to the port of embarkation.

2.2.8 All feed and bedding originated from New Zealand.

3. Definitions

For the purposes of this document:

Any term or expression that is defined in the Animal Products Act 1999 and used, but not defined in this document, has the same meaning as in this Act.

Explanatory note

This OMAR is based on the export certificate for Companion Rabbits to Taiwan dated 11 May 2009.

This is a new certificate based on import requirements entitled 'Quarantine Requirements for the Importation of Rabbits for Non-Laboratory Purpose – Appendix 1-9' (promulgated by Council of Agriculture on 19 December 1994). The export certificate was approved by BAPHIQ on the 5^th of June 2009.

1. An Import Permit is required

Section 61.A of the Animal Products Amendments Act 2005 states that 'The Crown is not liable, and nor is the Director-General or any employee of the Ministry liable, for any loss arising through the refusal or failure of the relevant authority of an overseas market to admit export animal material or animal product to that market'.
