Forest Products Export Standards - Phytosanitary Requirements of European Union

Logs

Import Permits or Declarations Import permit NOT required.
Certification Requirements Phytosanitary certificate required for conifer and Sweet chestnut (Castanea Mill) logs.
Phytosanitary certificate must not be issued more than 14 days prior to export and must include the registration number of the importer.
Phytosanitary certificates for product destined for the United Kingdom must either be issued prior to export, or state the inspection date.

Additional declarations for conifer logs:
  • “The logs are bark-free and free from grub holes which are larger than 3mm across and which are caused by the genus Monochamus spp. (2000/29/EC, Annex IV, Part B)”
or
  • “The logs or packaging have been marked ‘kiln dried’ or ‘KD’. The logs have undergone kiln-drying to below 20% moisture content, expressed as a percentage of dry matter, at time of manufacture, achieved through an appropriate time/ temperature schedule (2000/29/EC, Annex IV, Part B).”
Additional declaration for Sweet chestnut (Castanea Mill) logs:
“The consignment originates in an area known to be free from Cryphonectria parasitica (2000/29/EC, Annex IV, Part B).”

Note: New Zealand is free of Monochamus spp. and Cryphonectria parasitica.
