What are the requirements for importers of sea containers?

See sea containers for additional information.

There is an Import Health Standard (IHS) for importing sea containers. This standard describes the conditions that need to be met by sea containers imported into New Zealand.

These conditions include:

  • That the container is accompanied by a Quarantine Declaration
  • That the container is unpacked at a place (transitional facility) approved by MAF for that purpose.
  • That conforming containers are unpacked under the supervision of a trained accredited person.

A person or organisation wanting to set up a transitional facility for receiving, unloading or storage of sea containers must register to have their premises approved and their staff approved as accredited persons.
