Transiting Animals

Generally, animals may only transit through New Zealand if there is a current Import Health Standard specific for that animal and country. In most cases a transit permit is required. See under specific animal type for further information.

All animals changing planes in New Zealand must have a transit permit except for animals that are self-contained such as fish and laboratory animals.

Transit permit applications will be assessed on a case by case basis.
