Find or Apply for an Animal Import Health Standard

To find out if an Import Health Standard (IHS) exists for the animal you intend to import (and from the relevant country), first search existing standards.

If there is no current IHS for your commodity, use one of the forms to apply for one.

  • Application for importation of an animal product (excluding germplasm) PDF(pdf) (73 Kb) MSWord(doc) (458 Kb)
  • Application for importation of an animal or animal germplasm PDF(pdf) (70 Kb) MSWord(doc) (446 Kb)

A description of the new funding and management system and what applicants need to do is here.

All IHSs developed under the Biosecurity Act 1993 have to be based on supporting documentation (risk analyses), on which there is a statutory requirement for consultation. If no current supporting documentation or risk analysis exists for the commodity you wish to import, one will need to be developed before the IHS can be written. This can be a lengthy process. See Import Health Standards Funding and Management

You may want to review the IHS currently under consultation or review current Risk Analysis

Owners of imported cattle, sheep, goats and deer must meet special reporting requirements on an ongoing basis
