Kiwifruit bacteria Psa confirmed on four orchards outside of Te Puke

17 November 2010

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) this morning confirms that it has received positive test results for the presence of the bacterial disease Psa on properties outside of the Te Puke area.

Psa has been found on two orchards in the Napier/ Hastings area as well as two orchards in the Bay of Plenty towns of Edgecumbe and Whakatane.

MAF's Response Manager David Yard says these four new positives outside of Te Puke present MAF and the kiwifruit industry with an evolving picture of a wider distribution.

Three new positive reports have also been received for properties in Te Puke, bringing the total number of confirmed positive orchards to 25. The total number of properties under the control of Restricted Place Notices will now be increased to 28.
