1. On the look out for marine pests in Picton Harbour - 2 March 2009

   MAF Biosecurity New Zealand (MAFBNZ) will this week be looking at what’s living in Picton Harbour (including local marinas and the Havelock Marina) as part of a nationwide surveillance programme targeted at detecting a range of different marine pests.

2. Measures already in place for 'Bluetongue' virus - 23 September 2007

   The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's biosecurity arm, MAF Biosecurity New Zealand (MAFBNZ) says New Zealand already has measures in place to protect against the introduction of bluetongue, but is nevertheless keeping an eye on the situation in the UK where bluetongue has been detected in a cow.

3. Biosecurity New Zealand investigates new fungus in Northland - 25 March 2006

   Biosecurity New Zealand is investigating the occurrence of a new fungus in Northland that has been found in one orchard and confirmed present in a sample collected from Trounson Kauri Park.  The fungus was detected as a result of a MAF Operational Research funded project to determine the species of Phytophthora present in New Zealand using new DNA technology. This work was undertaken by collaborative project between Landcare Research, ENSIS and HortResearch.

4. Clover Root Weevil found in the South Island - 16 February 2006

   Clover root weevil has been detected in the South Island near Christchurch airport by AgResearch during a trap testing programme.

5. Biosecurity hunting Huntsman spiders in Hoon Hay, Hillmorton area. - 13 January 2006

   Biosecurity New Zealand is asking residents in the Hillmorton and Hoon Hay suburbs of Christchurch to be on the lookout for Huntsman spiders after three home owners in the area reported finding the spiders on their properties.

8. MAF detects fruit fly eggs at the border - 14 September 2006

   A number of cucumber fruit fly eggs (Tephritidae Bactrocera cucumis) were found on Monday 11 September in a rock melon consignment from Australia.

9. Joint response to tackle kauri dieback - 26 November 2008

   Kauri dieback (Phytophthora taxon Agathis or PTA), the newly-identified disease attacking kauri trees, is being addressed by six agencies working together as one response team.
