European foulbrood disease caused by the bacterium Melissococcus pluton is notifiable under the New Zealand Biosecurity Act 1993 and the honey bee population is free from the disease.
Western Australia has presented a case to New Zealand that Western Australia be recognised as free from the diseases of bees, European foulbrood.
