General Information
Field horsetail is a perennial fern ally which is poisonous to livestock. It grows up to 80cm tall, but dies back in winter. It prefers damp, open ground, particularly along stream and riverbanks.
It is of limited distribution in New Zealand. While it spreads by rhizomes and small tubers, its control is extremely difficult.
