Bovine Tb Strategy - Review of Costs
The Animal Health Board (AHB) is the management agency responsible for delivering the National Pest Management Strategy for bovine tuberculosis (the Strategy). The Strategy is currently being reviewed in accordance with the Biosecurity Act 1993.
The Crown fund a proportion of the cost of control of Bovine TB vectors by the AHB, and a similar proportion of administration costs. Recently MAF carried out an assessment of whether the AHB is operating in a cost effective manner. The Crown required that this review be carried out, prior to agreeing to continue funding the new strategy.
The reviewers concluded that overall the AHB:
- is carrying out its operation in a cost effective manner;
- is administering the Strategy to deliver a quality programme in a cost effective manner; and
- has adequate measures in place to ensure ongoing cost-effectiveness and value for money.
The reviewers examined all areas of the Animal Health Boards Operations. Their findings are detailed within the report linked below.
