Draft for Consultation: General Facilities for Holding, Inspection, Processing or Treatment of Uncleared Goods
The New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) must consult with interested parties before issuing or amending (other than of minor nature) standards in accordance with Section 22 of the Biosecurity Act (1993) and Biosecurity New Zealand's consultation policy.
The second draft of the Standard for General Facilities for Holding, Inspection, Processing or Treatment of Uncleared Goods is now available for consultation. The first draft was released in 2006, and is available in the archived consultations document section of this website.
The Standard has now been divided into two documents. The 'Draft Standard' outlines basic minimum requirements for facilities to follow. The second document is a 'Draft Guidance Document' that contains information on how to meet the requirements of the Standard, to a level of MAF 'best practice'. Facilities may either choose to follow examples provided in the guidance document, or develop their own systems of equivalence to meet MAF requirements. However, any systems of equivalence must be first approved by MAF.
