Draft Import Health Standard Schedule: Fragaria (Strawberry) Nursery Stock from All Countries

MAF has distributed the following draft document for public consultation and comment:

The Fragaria IHS Schedule was previously issued in hard copy format (1998) and has not been reviewed or converted to an electronic version since that time. The review was initiated because of changes required to the testing requirements for regulated pests of concern, the need to update the pest list itself given the time since last review, the need to have the schedule available online for end users, and because of importers expressing interest in importing strawberry material.

The original regulated pest list was reviewed with the scope as follows;

  • Regulated viruses, bacteria, phytoplasmas, and diseases of unknown aetiology were reviewed in detail (New information on presence and absences in NZ, taxonomical changes and host association) and testing measures were updated accordingly
  • Regulated pests for which generic measures are in place (i.e. insects, mites, nematodes) were reviewed to remove those that are now known to be present in NZ. Also additions to the list of regulated pests that are now known to have a host association with Fragaria.

Please note that full risk analysis was not conducted for these amendments.

Submissions on the draft IHS should be forwarded to MAF by close of business on Wednesday 28 November 2007. MAF encourages respondents to forward comments electronically to the email address below.
