Fungi for growing
You need to meet strict biosecurity requirements before importing edible fungi for growing, such as truffles for propagation and mushroom spawn. The requirements are to prevent the entry of unwanted organisms into New Zealand. MPI helps importers meet these requirements.

Importer responsibilities
Importers are among the most important people in defending against biosecurity risks. New pests and diseases can not only impact on human health, but also damage agricultural or horticultural production, forestry, and tourism, and affect trade in international markets.
If you observe an organism not normally seen in New Zealand, contact MPI as soon as possible on 0800 80 99 66.
